The Department of English was established in the year 1996 with the objective to cultivate flexible, responsive thinking, knowledge, skills and linguistic competence that would develop their writing, communication and argumentative skills for the rural students to reach the pinnacle in their career. It offers Part II English courses for all the first year undergraduate programmes, Skill Based Subject : Communication Skills for all UG Second year programmes, and Non Credit Course : Aptitude and Soft Skills, in connection to the placement for all UG Final year programmes. The Department has been entrenched with the acquaintance of B.A. English Literature in the year 2019. English literature kindles a world of inspiration and creativity in the students. The students develop their skills of analysis, interpretation and self- expression with an indepth reading of literature. Our Faculty has done UGC sponsored Minor Research Project, published a good number of research publications to their credit, and they refurbish their knowledge through participating in various International/National/State Level Conferences/Seminars & Workshops.

To envisage the department as a centre for progressive learning and to train the students in communication skills as per the expectation of the industry.

To attain par excellence in moulding the young minds to communicate meaningfully and fluently in English, instill confidence in them to take up the lucrative positions and reach the pinnacle in their career.

To foster the students to improve their Creative knowledge and Critical appreciation through acuminating the students to the abundance and exuberance of the English Literature to achieve excellence in the field of literature and communication through the global language.

Mission

  • To provide a distinct learning environment for productive and sustained dialogue delivery and action.

  • To Sharpen the critical ability to interpret and evaluvate literary texts and to enable students to develop a holistic understanding of literature in English

  • To educate the students to widen their knowledge and to strengthen their ability to analyse all forms of literary expression

Objectives

  • To encourage students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.

  • Provide them with appropriate knowledge in the discipline of English language and literature.

  • Broaden their international vision, in hopes of nurturing their cultural sensitivity in the humanities through various literatures.

  • To introduce students to the structure, meaning and function of the English language.

  • To improve spoken and written communication skills as a foundation for pursuing secondary professional skills, so as to meet the demands of career development and diversity in the present social milieu.

  • An enhanced appreciation and enjoyment of literature and language.

  • An appropriate knowledge of relevant fields within the discipline, including Literature; literary history, criticism and theory the language structures of Modern English and the history of the English language.
