The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1996 with an objective of imparting commerce education to the students to equip themselves with knowledge and experience required in various industries across the nation.Moreover the department was also recognized as a research department since 2010. At present the department is offering B.Com, M.Phil., and Ph.D Programmes. Further preparing the students to appear for CA Examination. The Department adopts learner-Centered teaching methods (Role Play, Field Visit, Group Discussion , Business Quiz, Debate and Project work). Auditors and Company Secretaries, banking Professionals and entrepreneurs are invited to the department for one to one Interaction with the students so that they would also get motivated and would take efforts to become successful Professionals.

Our Faculty members also have fairly a good number of research publications to their credit. They are regularly participating in various International/National/State Level Conferences/Seminars & Workshops in order to update their knowledge. In the Department 2 members are recognised as guides for M.Phil Programme and 1 for Ph.D Programme. As on date the Department has produced 25 M.Phil research Scholars, 5 Doctorates and 5 scholars are pursuing Ph.D Programme.

Objectives

  • To equip students with professional skills, interpersonal skills and entrepreneurial qualities.

  • To inculcate a strong sense of ethics and corporate values, especially with regard to the accountability, transparency and responsibility of a professional in the business world.

  • To provide students with the opportunity to play diverse financial roles at senior or advisory levels in the organization.

  • To develop professional knowledge and skills in international Accounting, Finance, Auditing, Taxation, Risk Management etc. by adopting learner centered pedagogical practices.

  • To provide a good foundation to students who plan to pursue professional courses like CA, ICWA, CFA, ACS and MBA.

  • To motivate the students to become entrepreneurs and to develop managerial skills in the students so as to enable them to establish and manage their business establishments effectively.
